After adding a couple more career talks to the free dinner list, accenture (where li yu is doing very well there, n he juz shang bao.. one of promising young men under 25) , edb and ocbc, there was one incident which stood out.. After i went for a 2nd helping at the edb talk, there was this man lingering ard, holding the edb pamphlet. HE asked what the talk was abt, and said he missed it. My first thought was that he was some edb guy faking that he dunno, and trying to get feedback on how gd or bad the talk was. Hence, i went into a tirade abt who they were looking for, what areas etc. With the talk fresh from my head, i was able to use some jargon that i dun normally utilize in my daily conversation. after talk abt finance sector and some self introduction , he told me he was looking at the finance area and was thinking of expanding further. i took his namecard and he took down my number, promising to keep in contact.
The nxt day, i got 3505 test so i din care abt him. but the following day, he called me as i was abt to email him to follow up. After all, it doesnt hurt to try n know more. He told me he had million of dollar invested in companies and clients and that he was going to branch out and look for pple to manage certain clients. "This industry is so so promising and burgeoning. there is a lot of money to be made. many rich clients are not to sure on how to use their wealth properly and me and my committee are just teaching them to be more prudent." he invited me for this talk on sat morning n told me he would talk to me first. this was the sms. "hi mervyn, the financial services opportunties program will be held at *** at 11 am. i ll cya at 1030 to haf a chat b4 the event begins ya.. haf a great day ahead. i initially agreed..
on sat 245 am, after JJ n I decided to make the dota game interesting by not coming back to defend the bottom lane when all 5 hero chiong there n both of us at top farming 2 towers which we din get, the game took much longer than i would haf wanted, becos i had a 1030 meeting the nxt day. i was lazy so i cooped up .. or rahter i had "an impromptu project meeting at 10 in sch" so i couldnt make it. really sorry.. i really wanna see how the talk is like. sorry for informing so late. ok den slp..
the next day 915 am he called. i slping, den he sms. "hi mervyn how long ll ur discussion be? if it can end at 1030 then i could pick u up from sch n drive u downto my office. this could achieve both ur agenda. wad do u think.. " i woke at 1130. n replied.. sorry my meeting juz ended.. could we reschedule another day? .. then he called at 12 plus and said he will do a personal talk wif me nxt sat instd.
in this kinda case, suspicion looms. why he so nice to me? issit MLM? i damn stress.. esp when pple are so nice for no apparent reason. it would be a gd way to network too but then again i is lazy. hmm , is finance realli for me? i will hafta start fr. scratch. well he looks credible. and he has a decent website.. fyi he is some parakletos tuition agency managing director.. but one cant help being incredulous when he says i got millions of dollars at stake in private wealth n clients..
