Upon reading Khaw's speech, I felt a deep sense of respect for this guy. Touching on thorny issues like means testing, he is not afraid to dabble in the controversial. Yes, unless u earn less than 3,200 monthly, you will not be able to enjoy the full health subsidy. And the government really does subsidise a huge part of the medical expenses. It does baffle me how people can afford such astronomical prices especially if you go to a private hospital with no subsidies. Are healthcare products/services really so expensive? This is an industry that can be tapped on, as a person's health is of utmost importance. I rmb someone telling me that death is another profitable business. If u r not pantang or anything, cos pple do die.. and its indeed not cheap for a funeral etc... i mean, you will pay a few thousands just for a coffin to be burnt..

Anyway, back to Khaw's speech, by touching on his late parents, he dissolved any barriers between the public and himself by invoking a sense of understanding and personal touch. The quarrel over using B2 or C class will nvr be resolved. The wealthier would wanna cut costs but what if this is for a lengthy period of time and how do you give subsidies for a continual period of medical treatment? The government would always been seen as a rich entity, pocketing all the taxes, and its people always want more. The SWF's massive investments also reinforce the belief that the public sector and civil servants are filthy rich. The normal grouses that arise from inflation and rising costs are thrown at the gvt, hoping for an immediate resolution.
