Nearly Conned!

On 16 Dec 2005 a NUS staff was approached by a stranger at the car park. The suspected Chinese national was properly dressed in office attire. He claimed that he came to NUS to look for a friend for help but realised the friend had gone overseas during this vacation period. The suspect explained his "troubles" and said that he had used up all his money. With his "NUS friend", not in Singapore, he has no one to turn to and needed help to tide through one night until his friend returns the next day. He was later joined by another Chinese national also in office attire. The NUS staff replied that he could not help them and suggested that they approached the Chinese embassy.
In a another recent incident at NUS, a similar suspect stopped a NUS staff whilst she was driving off to home and strongly persuaded her to provide him some money. Suspecting that he was a conman, the staff tried to drive off, but could not as the suspect leaned on to her car. He let off our staff only after collecting some money.

OMG! i was approached by the same man during exam period... he used the same ruse... say his fren not in spore, need money to eat til nxt day when his fren will come... i kindheartedly offered him $5 but he de chun jing chi ask for more... and summore he stopped me when i was driving in carpark.. after being overly pushy, i tried my best to leave but his hand was on my wound down window.. so i bo bian , said i gtg n just drove off.. grrrr lucky siah he was a bloody conman.. think i told xz n mj tat time.. he still said 'wo men dou si hua ren, bang bang mang' --> we are all chinese, pls help me i have no where to go.. and he was indeed well-dressed..

anyway continuation of xmas eve.. we went shopping for potluck food and bought fruits + chocolate to melt.. then went jeremy house.. watched a short clip on their KL trip.. then the food was pretty good and we couldnt finish as usual.. then played some card games, mahjong and they were trying out this red black imaginary card game which is so duh and could be easily proved wrongly..then was the present xchg where igot this cute dog-bear hybrid.. but qt cute la.. freddy got my present my beanie star which jen n amy chose.. however our present was much lower than budget but nvm larz.. after tat wanted to ktv but everywhere was full.. so we took train down to orchard where there was utter mayhem in the streets.. EVERY IDIOT WAS SPRAYING FOAM on strangers.. its like riot lidat, a sight not associated wif spore.. then it was a bit obvious tat the banglas were teaming agst us locals.. our local cheena ah beng also were aiming.. this poor non chinese guy was on a bicycle and 7 of our local lads just decided on him after scrutinizing the crowd and FOAMED Him til he fell off bicycle and they dragged the bicycle away .. i was damn aghast at all this unlawfulness..there were many traffic control n policemen ard but then the crowd was really high..
