A good post on the blog
Blogging helps in modules too.. look at my Reason n Persuasion module where everything is organised via a blog.. tutorials, forum posts etc all in the weblog.. this is my 1st n only comment in the blog and got a person actually say its a cool post! If u dun comprehend, feel free to consult me, the great teacher of philosophy...
Wow! What a long essay! Initially as i read through the lengthy essay, the cynical and suspicious side of me wondered whether the author, despite his impressive credentials, was BSing or perhaps, using flowery language to waylay the reader, especially the seemingly irrelevant part on humbug(a euphemism for BS). However,as i read on, it seemed so apt for my essay.. Plato Vs Carnegie. As our society moves towards a Conceptual Age(Re: Revenge of the Right Brain), there is increasing amount of BS in contemporary life, where marketing motive is dominant over telling the truth. Are we starting to employ the sophistic stance in order to achieve success? Persuasion aka BS is definitely a useful tool to obtain what one wants, be it selling a product or winning an argument. Harry Frankfurt also said, we can't possibly know much about everything, yet we like to voice our opinion to try to convince the other party.. therefore there is a tendency to BS. As opposed to Plato's "reasoning and arguing with his logic and math", in such context, one cannot neglect the significance of persuasive powers that Carnegie preaches about.As such, i conclude my bull session, fraught with BS or rather humbug, with the disguised motive of achieving my 10% forum participation marks. As to whether we are learning BS in uni and whether our teachers actually know that they know much about what they are teaching(Re: ZiJia's comment), i shall adopt Carnegie's mentality and refrain from commenting.
